This Rain98 update tracker separates events that have already happened from features the developer says will arrive later. The newest confirmed release event is the October 16, 2026 launch of the free Rain98 Demo, AppID 3738760. The base game, AppID 3498720, remains Coming Soon with only 2026 shown publicly; no exact full-game launch day is confirmed on its Steam page.
The current Demo covers the beginning of the story through the first half of Chapter 2 and advertises more than three hours of play. The developer plans to expand the Demo through the whole of Chapter 2 and says players will be able to continue from the point reached before that Demo update. That is a future Demo-content commitment, not evidence that the second half is already playable and not a promise that a Demo save will transfer into the retail base game.
Current product snapshot
For a direct player-facing status check, use Demo Updates. It explains how to distinguish the current Steam build from an older show-floor episode, a future-content statement, and an actual published patch.
How this tracker accepts an update
An entry needs a date, product identity, source, and player impact. The product identity must say whether it affects base AppID 3498720, Demo AppID 3738760, or both. A public Steam News post or a changed official store page can establish the announcement. A downloadable change should also be visible in the product players can install before it is described as shipped.
Steam’s internal BuildID is useful for diagnosing whether two players have different files, but it is not a semantic version. Rain98 does not currently publish a player-facing version label such as 1.0 or 0.2 for the Demo. This tracker therefore uses dates and exact AppIDs rather than renaming a depot build into an invented version.
Show-floor builds at BitSummit, PAX, gamescom latam, PAX West, Tokyo Game Show, and other public events are episodes of pre-release history. Their activities can explain where an idea was shown, but their timing, controls, payout, chapter boundary, and client identity cannot be substituted for the October 16 public Demo unless the current build confirms them.
Released, planned, and unverified states
This vocabulary matters because “coming in an update” is often shortened into “the update.” The former describes intent. The latter can sound like a downloadable change has already shipped. Every entry below keeps that distinction visible.
What the October Demo launch changed
The October 16 announcement made a free, globally visible Steam Demo available and identified it as more than three hours long. It supports nine interface/subtitle languages, with Japanese full audio shown on the Demo store page. It covers the story from the opening through the first half of Chapter 2 and makes the game’s visual-novel, adventure, apartment, Shibuya, Angel Passport, money, and activity concepts publicly playable on Windows.
The launch post also explicitly allows streaming and uploading video, including monetized video. That makes the public Demo a reproducible guide source rather than a private or NDA-bound test. It does not make footage from every earlier event build equivalent to the downloadable AppID.
Steam lists Cloud support, achievements, and full controller support for the Demo. These features belong to AppID 3738760. The base game’s final achievement list, shipped chapter content, technical requirement revisions, and save behavior remain launch-reverification items.
What has not been announced as released
No official entry currently says the full second half of Chapter 2 has shipped into the public Demo. No exact base-game release date, preload time, or unlock hour is confirmed. No reliable first-party statement says Demo saves carry into the retail base game. The store language about continuing from the current location applies to the announced Demo expansion.
There is also no public semantic version, complete change log, current known-issues list, or official fix notice for every discussion-thread problem. A Steam Community report can identify demand for help, but it does not prove the cause or that a fix landed. Before calling a behavior fixed, reproduce it on the current Demo and locate a matching official notice when one exists.
The Demo’s current Chapter 2 boundary should not be described as an ending to the complete Rain98 story. It is a stopping point in a pre-release slice. Avoid filling that gap with speculative ending explanations or old interview plans that differ about final route structure.
Verify your own installed state
Open Steam, select Rain98 Demo, and confirm the product name and AppID 3738760. Let Steam finish any queued download, then use Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files if a launch or missing-file problem persists. Steam may expose an internal build identifier through advanced tools, but the absence of a public version name means players should also record the check date.
At the Chapter 2 stopping point, read the live message rather than relying on a screenshot from a preview. If Steam has not downloaded a later build and no official update notice exists, do not assume the announced second-half expansion is already accessible. If an update does arrive, protect your save, allow Steam Cloud to finish, and compare the new boundary before publishing a route.

Maintenance rule for the next entry
Add another dated item only when an official source changes what a player can download, what the product page promises, or how a release decision should be made. A future Demo entry should state the chapter boundary before and after, AppID, source date, whether saves continue inside the Demo, and any separately confirmed technical change.
A base-game entry must use AppID 3498720 and distinguish a release-date announcement from the actual release. Store metadata can change independently of the Demo. This tracker will keep one Updates navigation label and will never create a fake patch history to make the timeline appear busier.
