Rain98 System Requirements

Compare the official Rain98 base-game and Demo Windows requirements row by row, understand storage and Steam Deck limits, and prepare the correct PC build.

The Rain98 base game and Demo currently publish the same Windows system requirements, but they remain separate Steam products. The base game, AppID 3498720, is still Coming Soon. The playable Demo, AppID 3738760, has been public since October 16, 2026. This guide keeps both product columns visible so you can verify the AppID and release state even while every listed hardware value matches.

If you want to play now, compare your PC with the Demo column. If you are planning for the full game, treat the base-game column as a preliminary listing that can change before release. Neither page publishes an official resolution or frame-rate target.

The shared minimum is the actionable current entry for the playable Demo, but it is not a performance promise. An i5-8250U and UHD 620 can exist in laptops with different memory channels, cooling, firmware, and power limits. No official statement ties this row to 30 FPS, 60 FPS, 720p, 1080p, or a specific quality preset.

“Intel Core i7” covers many generations and power classes. Do not assume that every i7 is faster than every i5, and do not invent a specific model for either recommended row. Compare the actual processor generation, core behavior, thermal limits, and graphics device when deciding whether one machine is a safer target.

Check your PC before downloading

On Windows, open Settings → System → About for the processor, installed RAM, Windows edition, and system type. Open Task Manager → Performance → GPU or Device Manager → Display adapters for the active graphics hardware. On a dual-GPU laptop, both an integrated Intel device and a discrete NVIDIA or AMD device may appear.

Then open the target Steam store URL and confirm its AppID. A requirement comparison is invalid if one tab points to the Demo and the other points to the unreleased base game. Record the page and date because pre-release values can be edited.

Playing todayUse Demo AppID 3738760 and its 8 GB RAM listing.
Planning for launchUse base AppID 3498720 as provisional, then recheck before purchase or install.
Integrated GPUPlug in a laptop, update its driver, and confirm the active power profile.
Storage estimatePreserve more free capacity than the listed available-space value.

Understand storage correctly

The requirement uses the phrase available space. That means free storage the publisher asks you to have, not the final size of a clean install. Downloads can be compressed, installed files can be larger or smaller, and a patch can require temporary working room. Steam, Windows, shader data, and saves can also use capacity outside the main game folder.

Keep comfortably more than 8 GB free if possible even though both current listings state 6 GB at minimum and 8 GB as recommended. That buffer is a practical precaution, not a new official requirement. The base-game values are still provisional because AppID 3498720 is unreleased, so recheck its official page rather than using today’s numbers to predict the final launch size.

If an install fails near completion, check free capacity on both the Steam library drive and the system drive. Clear space through normal Windows or Steam tools, restart Steam, and verify the installed files. Do not erase user data or saves merely to match a headline storage number.

Treat controller and Deck support separately

Steam lists full controller support, and the Demo page names DualSense. This is not the same as Steam Deck compatibility. The current Demo Deck status is Unknown, which means Valve has not supplied a public Verified, Playable, or Unsupported classification on the checked page.

A player report that the Demo launches on one Deck can be useful evidence for that device, SteamOS version, Proton version, control layout, and scene. It cannot replace Valve’s compatibility category or establish that the whole Demo is problem-free. Record text size, input prompts, video playback, save behavior, and suspend/resume separately when sharing a test.

The store listings do not advertise native Linux support. Proton is a compatibility route rather than a native release, and no current ProtonDB rating should be invented when a dependable report is unavailable. Windows remains the supported platform shown by both official products.

Choose what to do when you fall below a row

If your machine is below the Demo minimum, the safe answer is that the official listing does not establish support. You can wait for more measurements, use another Windows PC, or test Steam’s normal refund-compatible boundaries only after understanding that a free Demo itself does not prove the final game will behave the same way.

If you meet minimum but experience stutter, confirm that the intended GPU is active, connect external power, close heavy background software, and test a lower resolution or quality option if the build provides it. Change one variable at a time and retest the same scene. Keep exact frame-rate claims out of a public report unless a repeatable measurement supports them.

If you meet recommended and still have a fault, treat it as a diagnosis problem rather than proof the table is false. Verify files, update the GPU driver, disable conflicting overlays, and report the exact product, scene, language, and input device. Requirements describe hardware scope; they do not rule out a build-specific bug.

Recheck instead of extrapolating

The October 2026 Demo reaches only partway into Chapter 2, while the developer has announced more Demo content. More scenes can change download size or reveal different workloads. The full base game is expected to be longer, but its final technical profile has not been published.

Return to the two official pages after a Demo update and again when AppID 3498720 receives a release date or launches. Preserve old requirement snapshots as dated history, not as permanent truth. For broader install, controller, Cloud, and troubleshooting advice, use the Rain98 Tech hub.
